High Street August 2013… trapped in a time warp.

Locked out of undamaged factory for 902 days – (since Feb 2011)

Do we still own our building????   Well this question gets more complicated.  CERA has stated that it is “unlikely” the crown would want to purchase our property.  But, the count will go on until I have it categorically stated. And better still, in writing. AND the designation needs to be lifted.

Now 379 days since designated “South frame, Innovation Precinct” – only 4 more years to go before we get told if we are going to be compulsorily acquired by CCDU.

Well this is interesting. CERA has publicly “refuted that business owners kept out of loop.” That is funny, I can name dozens who feel the same as I do.  I was talking to one owner yesterday who told me he has had 3 meetings since July 2012 and still has not had an offer for his building that is in a “to be acquired area”.

I have scanned in the article below from the Christchurch Mail.  I find it amusing that they are so strident that we have had plenty of meetings, emails and phone contact.  Incidentally the last phone call I had from CERA was from the Property Group (the ones that offer you silly prices for your land and buildings if you are in the Frame area) encouraging me to make a time to have a meeting with them if I did not like the “spatial plan” for the innovation precinct. Given that the plan I saw a number of weeks ago was so airy fairy as to be unbelievable, this aspect of the precinct is still to be assessed.

Apparently, we are now told, by the media no less, that “building owners could expect to have their status confirmed by mid September.”  I am not going to hold my breath on this issue. This was news to my fellow building owner friends who were some what bemused by this bit of information.

Interestingly also the article finishes with the usual CERA threat.  “Cera said if landowners were unwilling or unable to develop in line with the precinct’s framework, the Crown would commence a land acquisition process.”

Unfortunately the article does not really address the issues in the street. The inaction by the other landowners/CERA/CCDU/Heritage Trust /CCC.

Cera Refutes Business Owners Kept Out of LoopOn a more depressing note.  I promised some photos of the buildings in the street.  It is not pretty. This is our neighbour on the left hand side, he is uninsured and has not done any work since September 2010.  CERA has “made safe”.

This is our neighbour on the other side. He has done no repairs since September 2010. CERA has "made safe". More on that later!

This owner has had some "make safe work" done, and nothing further since 2011.

This owner has had some “make safe work” done, and nothing further since 2011. I believe that he is for sale.

Below is one owner, he is doing a great jobon his strengthening and repairs. Doing repairs and strengthening work.

Here is one owner who is doing a great job on his strengthening and repairs.

These 2 shops on the end have had only "make safe" work done. As you can see it does not really look too flash.
These 2 shops on the end have had only some “make safe” work done. As you can see it does not really look too flash. They have problems because of the Billens Building next door.

This is the Billens building that was burnt down last year, it remains lying in the street.

This is the Facade of the McKenzie and Willis building. As you can see, it is not going to be fixed any time soon.

Ho Humm,  Christchurch waits in discontent.  Roll on the elections!

  1. Why do I get the feeling that any metal which could have been made into coins to pay you for your building will instead be made into OBEs for Isaacs and his mafia?
